A PLANET IN CRISIS // Aberdeen

Globally we face a housing, a climate and a health crisis in the built environment.

There are not enough affordable homes available, with thousands of people living in accommodation which negatively affects their health and wellbeing. The Tillydrone Affordable Sustainable Housing Scheme offers solutions to tackle these crises in Aberdeen. The development includes 175 new PassivHaus standard homes, as well as offering a retrofit strategy to upgrade the fabric of Aberdeen’s existing buildings.

A sustainable neighbourhood strategy for new build utilises green spaces, pedestrian focused street design and cohousing principles to create a unified masterplan. Prefabricated timber panels with hemp insulation grown form the structure of the homes, with low impact materials sourced within Scotland specified.

See below for an overview of the project, and the following link to my combined thesis report containing my design manifesto and explorations into the financing and procurement process.
