Regent Quay Market // Aberdeen

Set in Aberdeen’s Harbour, in the wake of the declining oil industry, Regent Quay is transformed into a vibrant public space that breathes a new life into the city seafront. In aiming to diversify the local economy, the project focuses on bolstering the regional food sector as well as on establishing new artisanal business opportunities. The site holds a food market and a studio workshop where local craft workers can create sustainable products from seaweed and recycled waste. With an additional focus on providing a dynamic public space, the scheme includes a variety of recreational areas. A pier-inspired promenade stretches along the site, while a set of steps allows people to reach the water level and even sail to near-by floating pontoons. A separate café and a street food hub located on the quay further contribute to the lively public environment by facilitating social gatherings.
