Beyond Petroleum // Aberdeen
Beyond Petroleum is an Innovation District in Aberdeen Harbour built to aid the transition of the city towards net-zero. The project explores how BP should be operating in order to begin to justify their recent enormous profit surges and begins with a re-brand. Beyond Petroleum.
The bulk of the project focuses on the department for retrofit, housed within the Old Aberdeen Iron Works. The building provides research, training and start-up facilities to advance knowledge of retrofit whilst also acting as a hub for the area.
The proposal uses natural materials only to embody Beyond Petroleum’s ambition to change, moving entirely away from oil-based products. As much steel and granite as possible from the original building is also retained.
As a key part of the thesis, the Combined Thesis Report outlines the intentions and research of the project.
